249 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca PRITCHARD, Ralph L. WWII Ralph was born in Roland, Manitoba on November 19, 1919. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942, took his first training in Winnipeg and completed his aero mechanic’s training in St. Thomas, Ontario. He was stationed in MacDonald, Manitoba in 1943 and then stationed next to Edmonton, Alberta until his discharge in 1945. He received his service medals. Ralph married in 1943 and they returned to the farm in Roland in 1945 where they raised three children and farmed until he passed away in July 2010. RANDLE, William Leslie “Morris” SPECIAL DUTY AREA William was born on October 21, 1931, to Jack and Gladys Randle in Blake Township, where he was raised and educated. Morris married Helen Major on October 17, 1953 and they had a son Greg and a daughter Gail. At the age of 21, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and became an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. During his Military service, the family lived in France for four years and returned to Canada after. For Canada’s Centennial Year, he travelled across the country with the Golden Centennaires to help maintain the Avro 504K (Old Gold) plane. After retiring from the RCAF with twenty years of service, the family moved back to Thunder Bay, Ontario where Morris started his business, Randle Excavating. Always an active person, he enjoyed walking, gardening, picking berries, meeting friends for coffee and was involved with The Royal Canadian Kakabeka Legion Branch 255 for over twenty years. Morris had grandchildren and great grandchildren.William passed away on June 7, 2019. RISELEY (BARTRAM), Doris M. WWII Doris was born in 1923 in Angusville, Manitoba. She enlisted with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps on November 28, 1942 and posted to Shilo, Manitoba then to airbase at Carberry as a cook. Private Bartram married a Royal Air Force airman stationed in Carberry, Sergeant Ken Riseley, in October 1944. She received a discharge and her and Ken were sent to England in 1944 where Ken served with the RAF for the duration of the war. They lived their working lives in England, Ken with Quaker Oats and Doris with British Airways. They made many trips over the years to Canada until 1988 when they both decided to spend their retirement years at home in Shoal Lake, Manitoba. Ken and Doris were involved in many local activities especially watching baseball. She was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Shoal Lake Branch 72. Ken passed away in June 2004 and Doris now resides in a nursing home in Shoal Lake. Although Ken and Doris had no children of their own, they had many nieces and nephews and neighbours who they looked upon as their extended family.
