247 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca PATERSON, Alfred Putnam WWI Alfred Putnam Paterson was born on September 12, 1897, in Upper Kennicook, Hants County, Nova Scotia to Mary Whyte and Alexander Paterson. Alfred had five brothers and six sisters. Alfred was drafted into service under the Military Act of 1917 and received his medical examination on November 17, 1917 at Fort Frances, Ontario. He enlisted with the 1st Depot Battalion Manitoba Regiment, Canadian Expeditionary Force at Port Arthur, Ontario on January 15, 1918. Alfred was discharged from the Canadian Expeditionary Force on February 22, 1919 at Halifax, Nova Scotia. He received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. Alfred married Emily Houck and they had six daughters and one son. Three of his children, Elizabeth Mabel Paterson, Alice Paterson and Edith Paterson joined the Armed Forces during World War II. Alfred farmed in Devlin, Ontario after the war and died on September 9, 1974. He was a wonderful father and grandfather. PAUCH, Julian J. WWII Julian was born in Glenella, Manitoba in 1919. He served during World War II in the Air Force with Aircraft MTCE/Repair at RCAF Winnipeg Training Base. Julian passed away in 1981. PEMICAN, John O. H. WWII John was born in Lac Seul, Ontario in 1922. He lived as a trapper and fisherman on Lac Seul prior to his service. He served in World War II in the Army with the Winnipeg Light Infantry. He received the War Medal 1939-1945. John was killed in action on June 10, 1943.
