243 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca OAKLEY, Roger A. PEACETIME Roger was born in Sioux Lookout, Ontario on April 20, 1944. He enlisted with the PPCLI at Jericho Beach, British Columbia in 1963. He served seven years with NATO in Germany and a tour of duty in the United Nations peacekeeping forces in Cypress. The remainder of his time was served in Canada. In 1974, after an honourable discharge, he moved his family to Rainbow Lake, Alberta and after a couple of years back home to Hudson, Ontario and went to work for McKenzie Forest Products retiring there as maintenance supervisor in 2004. Roger received the NATO Medal, Peacekeeping Medal, United Nations Cyprus Medal, Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal and Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. Roger was a 43-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion serving many years on the executives at all levels including as Past President of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario Command. He spent all his spare time for two years constructing the memorial cairns on Lac Seul which were dedicated to our local veterans who fought and died for our country in World War II. OLSON (TEED), Connie PEACETIME Connie enlisted in 1952 in Calgary, Alberta with the RCAF Women’s Division and was promoted the rank of Corporal as a Supply Technician. She served at St. Johns, Quebec; Aylmer, Ontario; 6RD Trenton, Ontario; and also at 4 (F) Wing, Baden-Soellingen, West Germany. Connie was discharged in 1956 and resided in Edmonton, Alberta. OLSON, Paul A. WWII Paul was born in Hudson, Ontario in 1918. He worked with Air Transport from Hudson, Ontario to Red Lake, Ontario. He joined the Air Force and served in Britain, Cumberland. Paul was killed in action on February 14, 1944 in Britain, Cumberland. He is interred at Chester (Blacon) Cemetery in the United Kingdom.
