He served in World War II with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in Holland. Wilson was killed in action on October 23, 1944 in Holland. He received the War Medal 1939-1945, 1939-1945 Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and France and Germany Star. McLACHLAN, Arthur W. WWI Arthur was born in Boissevain, Manitoba in 1895. He served in World War I with 144 Battalion in France and England. Arthur was killed in action in France in 1917. McLEOD, William “Bill” WWI Bill was born in Kenora (Rat Portage), Ontario on May 22, 1898. His wife was Frances (Locke) McLeod. They had two daughters and one son, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren. Bill enlisted during World War I in the 94th Battalion in Kenora and transferred to the 43rd Cameron Highlanders in Winnipeg, passing his eighteenth birthday while aboard a troopship bound for Great Britain. Twice wounded, the first time in the battle of the Somme on October 8, 1916 and again in Vimy Ridge in 1917, he received his discharge from the armed forces in June 1919 at Winnipeg. He continued his military career with the 40th Medium Regiment at Kenora, between the two wars, and when hostilities broke out in 1939, Bill enlisted with the Lake Superior Regiment and as Major commanded “A” Company, going overseas with the unit. Bill was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 12 Kenora, Life Member of the Lake of the Woods Masonic Lodge No. 445, a member of the Khartum Temple and also a member of the Officers’ Institute. He was a member of St. Alban’s Cathedral in Kenora. Bill passed away on May 30, 1985.
