231 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LUNDY, Murray WWII Murray enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in July 1941 and served as Aircraftsman during World War II. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lundy, formerly of Fisher Branch, Manitoba. Murray resided in Winnipeg until his death in the summer of 1990. MARTIN (KINES), Jean E. WWII Jean was born in Tummel, Manitoba on October 20, 1918. She enlisted on February 5, 1942 and worked as a cook in Borden, Ontario and Patricia Bay, British Columbia (the current home of 12 Wing’s 443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron). Jean conducted her basic training in Trenton, Ontario and recalled that marching felt like they were going to march to the ocean. Upon completing her culinary training at the RCAF School of Cookery, No. 4 Wireless School in Guelph, Ontario she was posted to Camp Borden where she eventually ran the officers’ mess. Towards the end of her Military career she was posted to Patricia Bay. Her service earned her two medals: Canadian Volunteer Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 and she was honourably discharged on December 5, 1945. After the war, the Department of Veterans Affairs put her through the School of Dental Nursing at the University of Toronto. Jean was married for 55 years, had three children, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She now lives in Halifax near one of her daughters and is in good health and enjoys winning at bingo. Jean has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Roblin Branch 24 for 36 years. She received the Royal Canadian Legion Medal and the Veterans Service to Canada Medal. MATHISON, Earl D. WWII Earl was born in Bounty, Saskatchewan in 1917. He served with the Royal Air Force in Canada and England during World War II. Earl was killed in action in 1945 in Belgium.
