227 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LINK, Ernest “Tiny” WWII Tiny Link joined the Canadian Light Infantry in Winnipeg. After spending some time in Canada, he went overseas serving in England at No. 7 Canadian Depot, AWing Records Office. He returned to Canada in 1946 and settled at Hodgson, where he served as postmaster for 32 years. Tiny was very active in The Royal Canadian Legion Branch Hodgson 158 in Manitoba. He served as President in 1958, Treasurer from 1961 to 1976 (fifteen years), Zone 52 Commander and as a representative of DVA, acting as Welfare Officer. Tiny passed away in April 1981. LINK, Leslie Albert WWI Leslie was born in Bagot, Manitoba in 1898 and was a student in Portage la Prairie, MB. He joined the Army in Winnipeg in 1917, sailing from Halifax to England in April 1917 on the SS Canada. Leslie was a Private (driver) with the 10th Battalion, 76th Battery, Canadian Field Artillery. He served in England and was sent to France in November 1917 where he suffered shrapnel wounds to his thigh and leg as well as fracturing his leg. Leslie died of his wounds on August 8, 1918 and is buried at the Crouy British Cemetery in Crouy-Saint-Pierre, Picardie, France. His Memorial Cross was given to his mother, Mrs. Christina Link. LITTLE, Gordon Hosher WWI Gordon was born in Souris, Manitoba in 1894. He served in World War I with the 44th Battalion in France. Gordon was killed in action in France in 1917.
