169 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca EDGAR, Clifton H. WWII Clifton was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on August 23, 1926. He enlisted in the Navy in Regina, Manitoba on January 17, 1944 and served on the High Seas and Canada during World War II. Clifton was discharged in Regina on October 31, 1945. He received a Service Medal. EDMONDSON, James W. WWII James was born in Marquette, Manitoba in 1914 to Fred and Margaret (Robertson) and was raised south of Fortier, Manitoba on a farm. He served from November 4, 1942 to March 2, 1946. He trained as a Wireless Electrical Mechanic in #1 Wireless School in Montreal, Quebec then served in Claresholm, Alberta and #12 Service Flying Training School in Brandon, Manitoba. In January 1945, he re-mustered to radar and went to #1 Radar School in Trenton, Ontario. He graduated just before Easter. They all went overseas on the ship the Volindam in American Convoy out of New York. V.E. Day was declared when they were midway. They arrived at Bournemouth and were there ten days, however the papers for all of them were lost. They were all posted to Radar to #78 Radar Wing in Devon. The 27 outnumbered the ones that were already at #78 Radar Wing so the 27 were posted in groups of four to their costal stations until they could find a school for them. He went to Ringstead Bay where he ran the Transmitter. In August, all of them went to school at East Loud in Cornwall. While he was there, the V.J. Day came along and their courses were scrapped. Nine of them were posted to the Huskie Squadron and ended up in Brussels. After he was discharged, he worked for Massey Harris in Winnipeg. In 1948, he married Elsie Kell (daughter of Henry and Maryann Kell of Killarney, Manitoba) and they had one daughter. He was Manager for Manitoba Pool Elevator at Sidney, Manitoba and retired in 1975. They remained living in Sidney all of their lives. He passed away on November 10, 2005. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Carberry Branch 153 for 56 years.
