105 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca COOK, Erwin Arthur WWII Erwin enlisted in the Air Force on February 27, 1943. He served in Canada with the #18 PAED Queens during World War II. His father was Otto Koch. COOK, Harry Sr. WWII Harry Cook, at age twenty, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery on January 7, 1943. He took his basic training in Winnipeg, Manitoba and advance training in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After going overseas, he had one year of training in England before going to Normandy, France as a Gunner. From Normandy, he went through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. When the war ended on July 14, 1945, he was in Oldenburg, Germany. He came home after the war ended for a holiday and then later volunteered to go to the Pacific Forests as he wanted to go to Japan. (“I’d hoped to see the geisha girls but unfortunately did not end up going.”). He was discharged from the Army on December 18, 1945, as a noncommissioned officer. He tried farming for ten years and then got a job with the Department of National Defence where he stayed for thirty years until he retired in 1987. He credits his military service for helping him in his career. He received: The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star and the Defence Medal. COOKE, Charles Franklin WWII Charles was born in Benito, Manitoba on June 24, 1922. He enlisted in the Air Force in Regina on September 10, 1942 and served with the #10 SFTS overseas and in Canada. Charles was discharged in Winnipeg on September 6, 1945.
