77 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca CRAMER, James Edward WWII James was born in Baldur, the son of Albert Edward and Eva Janet Aitken. He enlisted at Winnipeg and trained there and at Hamilton, Ontario. Overseas, he served in England, Sicily, Italy and Belgium. He married Winnifred Irene Faulkner on October 31, 1942 in Leicester, England. They had two sons, Brian and Barry, a daughter, Marion and one adopted son, John Allan. He lived in Douglas, MB where he was a manager of a Sire Indexing Center. CROSS, Gordon PEACETIME Gordon was born in Winnipeg in 1931 and joined the Naval Reserve in 1954. Prior to this, he was a Sea Cadet since 1947. He learned the Morse code in the Signals there at HMCS Chippawa. He spent his summers at Naden in Victoria, British Columbia and they learned all about submarines and spend over two weeks aboard a ship going within a couple of hundred miles from the North Pole. He was released in 1955. Gordon married Margaret Morrell and they had two girls and one boy. He worked at Eaton’s Catalogue Store and at the post office, each for 26 years. Gordon has been a member of Norwood Legion Branch 43. CUTBUSH, Henry WWI Henry was born in Farnboro, Kent, England on April 30, 1889. He enlisted in the Army and served with the 52nd Battalion at the Battle of The Somme during World War I. The GV Canadian Memorial Cross was named to Sergeant Henry Cutbush, 52nd Battalion, CEF killed in action on September 16, 1916 in Courcelette, France during the Battalion’s attack on Zollern Graben Trench near La Boiselle on the Somme. The Battalion suffered eleven officers and two hundred and forty-four OR’s killed, wounded and missing. He is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial.
