73 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca COONEY, Wilbert John WWI Wilbert was born in Gladstone, Manitoba, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Cooney. He enlisted at Gladstone and trained at Camp Hughes and in England. He saw service in France and Belgium with the 44th Battalion. He was awarded the Military Medal for meritorious service. He married Edna Duncan in 1922 and they had three sons: Raymond, Bob and Bill. In 1968, Bert married Nora Kelly and they retired in Baldur. CRAIK, D. J. WWII D. J. was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Craik. He enlisted in Winnipeg in 1941 and trained at Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg, Manitoba; and Woodstock, Ontario. He was stationed at Saskatoon, SK; Shilo, MB; and Debert, NS and overseas in England, Italy, France, Germany, Belgium and Holland. As a member of the 16th Battalion, 4th Anti-tank Regiment, he received the S.P.A.M. medals. Donald lived at Greenway where he farmed and married Emily Christopherson in 1965. CRAIK, Harold WWII Harold was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Craik of Greenway. He enlisted at Winnipeg in the RCAF and trained at Toronto and St. Thomas, Ontario. He was stationed at Dauphin, Manitoba and overseas in England, Wombeden, Down Ampney and Topcliffe. He married June Tarves in June 1949 and they had two sons, Darrol and Brian. The family lived in Edmonton where Harold was employed as a commercial traveller.
