71 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca COLLINS, Michael Edward WWII Michael was born in Glenora, the son of Richard and Grace Collins. Michael enlisted in Winnipeg on June 16, 1941 at the age of seventeen and trained in Winnipeg with the C12th Manitoba Dragoons. He was stationed at Shilo, Borden, Victoria, and Truro, Nova Scotia. Overseas, he was in England, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. He was a Driver of a Stagbound Armoured Car, throughout the N.W. Europe Campaign. He was in Northern Germany when peace was declared and arrived home in December 1945 at twenty years and ten months old. He lived at Baldur where he was foreman of the RM of Argyle Road Maintenance Crew. Michael married Enid Nelson on October 11, 1947. They had two sons, Mark and Richards, and a daughter, Connie. Mick was a Past President of the Baldur Legion. COLLINS, Owen Richard WWII Owen was born in Glenora, Manitoba, the son of Richard and Mary Collins. He enlisted at Winnipeg in the RCAF and trained at Truro, Nova Scotia and overseas in England. He was a flying officer with the RCAF and went overseas in 1943. He was reported missing over France in June 1944. He was with the underground until September 1944 and arrived back in England on September 15, 1944. He married Joyce Krawchuk and they had three daughters, Sharron, Linda and Melrose, all of Winnipeg, and a son Larry, who was killed in Vietnam. Owen is now deceased. COONEY, Raymond WWII Raymond was born in Gladstone, Manitoba, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Cooney. He enlisted in Winnipeg with the Air Force and trained at Brandon and served overseas in England and Egypt. He lived at Vernon, British Columbia and was employed as a low-bed driver. In 1947, he married Pat Nelson and they later had two sons, Murray and Douglas.
