59 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca CAMPBELL, Thomas B. “Tom” WWI Tom was born in Scotland in 1894 and immigrated to Canada in 1910 to help his uncle farm. He joined the 1st Depot Battalion, Manitoba Regiment in June 1918 in Brandon, Manitoba. Tom served in Canada during World War I and was discharged from this Canadian Expeditionary Force in January 1919. When World War II broke out, he was in the Reserves, and one of the leaders of the Alexander Air Cadet Core. He was one of the founding members of the Griswold Legion Branch 112 in 1935. Tom passed away in 1972. CANNON, Aubrey P. WWI Aubrey was born in Greenwich, England in 1888. He joined the Canadian Army in the 1920’s and his rank was Sergeant. Aubrey served with the 10th CMR (Canadian Army) in England during World War I and while in Britain, he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps where he was a Lt. Air Observer. Aubrey passed away in 1951 in Port Arthur, Ontario. CAPON, George WWII George was born in Dry River. He enlisted in Winnipeg, trained at Shilo and served overseas. George married Fleurette Trottier on September 21, 1946 and they had four children: Sharon, Arlen, Rodney and Ashlye. The family lived in Belmont and operated the Belmont Hardware.
