57 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca CADZOW, Christopher J. “Chris” WWII Chris was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 28, 1928. He joined the Winnipeg Light Infantry, an Army Reserve Regiment, in 1939 just after his father was sent overseas. He served in Winnipeg and Shilo during World War II. He trained twice a week at McGregor Armoury. A year later, he was promoted to Corporal and became an instructor on the Sten Gun, Bren Gun and the Browning General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG). He took a keen interest in rifle shooting and became his unit’s top marksman with the .303 caliber Lee-Enfield rifle. Chris was transferred to the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and sent to Shilo to complete parachute training. The war ended just before Chris was to be sent overseas so he returned to Winnipeg and was released from the Army. He returned to work for the CNR as a Fireman and Crane Operator. Later, Chris became an instructor for the handling of dangerous goods and remained with the CNR for forty years before retiring in 1985. Chris met his wife Sonia Anita Mosienko, the niece of the famous Chicago hockey player Bill Mosienko, while in service and they married in 1954. Chris and Sonia raised two children, Robin and Jaye-lynn. Chris has been an active member of the Henderson Highway Legion Branch 215 for 34 years. CAMPBELL, Norman John WWII Norman was born in Glenboro, the son of Kenneth and Edith Campbell. He enlisted in Winnipeg in August 1941 and trained there and at Brandon, St. Thomas and was stationed at Brandon No. 12 S.F.T.S. He was a member of the Baldur Legion. He lived and farmed at Baldur. He married Loretta Goegebuer on June 15, 1947 and they later had two children, Kenneth and Betty-Mae. CAMPBELL, Roderick WWII Roderick Campbell, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Rory Campbell was born in Baldur. Rod completed Junior Matriculation and enlisted in the RCAF with whom he has served since 1950 in capacity of X-ray technician. Rod and his wife June Covey (St. Tillsonburg, Ontario) have two children, Sharon and Rodney, and reside in Winnipeg.
