He served in Canada and following the war resided in Brandon as an Instructor for the Deptartment of Youth and Education. He married, Louise, and had three daughters: Lorraine, Dorothy and Wilma. Louise is deceased. Bill later married Florence Mary Scott. BURRELL, Herbert T. “Herb” WWII Herbert was born in Roblin, Manitoba on July 26, 1919. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Saskatoon Light Infantry, Canadian First Division. He was sent to England in 1939 and served in North Africa and Italy during World War II. While on leave with his best friend, Bill Radford, they went to visit Bill’s cousins in Rhyl, North Wales. On July 27, 1942, Herb married one of the cousins, Margaret Edna (Betty) Heathcote. Grace, their first daughter, was born on April 20, 1943. Betty was pregnant with their second daughter Frances when Herb was killed in action in Ortona, Italy on December 18, 1943. BURRELL, Mervin PEACETIME Mervin was born in Nokomis, Saskatchewan in 1934 and after stints in the Air Cadets and Army Cadets, he joined the Army’s 17th Reserves. In 1951, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force training for radar and electronic communications. He trained in Clinton, Ontario, Trenton, and Ottawa with the 408th Squadron working on Lancasters doing Arctic surveys coast to coast for two years during Peacetime. Mervin’s job, despite what kind of aircraft it was, was to keep them flying. He was released in 1956, but because of his training he would work on military contracts in Germany, France and Italy at various radar stations. He had taken about a year and a half of Dew Line training prior to this, mainly with RCA Victor. After he left there, he was a Commissioner for 26 years until his retirement. He married Dorothy Williams; they had three sons and one daughter and have retired in Winnipeg. Mervin has been a member of Norwood Legion Branch 43.
