41 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca BJORNSSON, Valdimar WWI Valdimar was born in the RM of Argyle on November 12, 1896, the son of Ivor and Margaret Bjornsson. He joined the 184th Battalion on February 29, 1916. Valdimar went to England in October and on to France. He was sent back to England with French fever. Upon recuperating, he was returned to France with the 188th Battalion in March 1918. He was wounded in early August and died on August 13, 1918. BLANCHETTE, Raymond WWI Raymond was born in Howick, Quebec in 1890 and moved to Ste. Annes-des-Chênes, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Army in June 1918 and trained at Minto Camp and Camp St. Charles with the 1st Depot Battalion, Manitoba Regiment. He went on harvest leave and did not proceed overseas as a result of the Armistice. After the war, he lived and worked in St. Boniface and passed away in 1951. BLOOMFIELD, Ralph W. WWII Ralph was born in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, England on January 12, 1907. He enlisted the Army in Winnipeg in November 1925 with Fort Garry Horse and was discharged to Active Army on October 28, 1942 (various units – Staff). He served in Canada during World War II. Ralph was discharged back to reserves at the rank of Captain in Winnipeg on August 31, 1945. He was promoted to Major with 21st Field Squadron RCE. Ralph was a member of Flin Flon Legion Branch 73 for 45 years and transferred to Branch 8 in Surrey, BC in January 1990.
