35 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca BILES, Bertram Francis “Bill” WWII Bill was born in Kent, England, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Biles. He farmed in the Glenboro area. He enlisted in Winnipeg in 1941, trained there and at Woodstock and Camp Borden and served overseas in England, Italy, Belgium and Holland. He married Anna Joel on June 20, 1947 and they later had six children: Bob, Wendy, Daniel, twins Katherine and Keiths, and Randal. Bill farmed five miles north and two miles west of Baldur. BILES, Francis George WWI Francis was born in Hamworthy, Dorset, England, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Biles. He enlisted in 1915 in Winnipeg, trained in Brandon and served overseas in England and in France. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal on August 22, 1917 and received his commission in 1918. He married Elsie Gray on February 15, 1919 and they later had three children: Bertram, Henry and Marion (Barr). George farmed for a number of years five miles west of Baldur. He was a very active Legionnaire and a member at Glenboro. Francis passed away in 1966. BINGHAM, James P. “Jim” WWII Jim was born in Manitou, Manitoba, the son of Eliza and Philip Bingham. He enlisted in Winnipeg with the RCAF and trained in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal and was stationed at No. 3 Rd. Alliford Bay, Boundary Bay, BC. He married Sally Wilson and they had two children, Linda and Nicki. James was employed as a U.G.G. agent while in Baldur.
