27 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca BALDWIN (BENEDICTSON), Halldor WWI Halldor was born in the RM of Argyle in 1888, the son of Baldwin and Gudny Baldwin. He was a jeweller at Baldur at the time of enlistment in March 1918, in the Royal Flying Corps, at home and abroad. In 1917, he married Emilia Gudrun Fridfinnson. They had two children, Lillian Lewis and a son W. H. Baldwin, both of Winnipeg. Halldor is deceased but is well remembered for his jewellery shop on Sargent Avenue, which he had for many years. BALL, Alfred George WWII Alfred was born in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia in 1915. He enlisted in the Army and served as a Policeman out of Ottawa during World War II. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Alfred passed away in 2000. BANNERMAN, Henry Alex WWI Alex was born in Baldur, the son of Margaret and George Bannerman. He enlisted in Baldur, training there and at Camp Hughes before going overseas for further training at Shoreham Camp in England. He was the victim of a war injury which affected him extensively throughout the remainder of his life. He married Sara Johnson on December 9, 1925 and they later had eleven children: Ruth, Roy, Margaret, Ruby, Ivy, George, John, Ralph, Elaine, Grace and Robert. Alex died in September 1971. He was a Life Member of the Baldur Legion Branch 108.
