He enlisted at Winnipeg in December 1951, trained at Ippenwash, ON, Rivers, Winnipeg and Halifax, NS and served in Germany from 1957-59 and in Korea from 1952-53. He married Alfreda May Whittaker on December 23, 1970, and they had one son, David Whittaker. Ross moved to Agincourt, ON, where he worked as a bartender. MARKUSSON, Sigurdur S. “Siggi” WWI Sigurdur was born in Iceland on December 24, 1872, the son of Rev. and Mrs. Markus Gislason. Siggi enlisted in the 108th Battalion on January 17, 1916 and went to England in September 1916 where he transferred to the 175th Scottish Battalion. Upon reaching the age of retirement, he was returned to Canada and released from service. Siggi worked as a labourer throughout the Icelandic community. He is deceased. McELROY, Doug WWII Doug was born at Morden, Manitoba, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.P. McElroy. He married Viola Douglas in 1948 and they lived in Flin Flon, Manitoba. They had two children, Donald and Shannon. Doug enlisted at Portage, trained at Portage and Kingston and was stationed in different parts of Canada. McNEE, Colin Sr. WWI Colin McNee Senior was born in Scotland and worked as a farm hand until he joined the 181st Battalion in Brandon, MB in March 1916. He married Belle Ballantine on July 10, 1916 and then went overseas with the 44th Battalion in April 1917 and then on to France. After returning to Canada in 1919, he commenced farming at Glenora. Colin and Belle had one son, Colin Jr. In 1942, they moved to Winnipeg where Colin Sr. died at Deer Lodge in 1962. MOORE, William R. WWII William was born at Glenboro, Manitoba, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Moore. He lived in St. Vital, MB and was employed with the Dominion Government. On May 12, 1956, he married Yvonne. He enlisted at Brandon, trained at Shilo and Camp Borden and served overseas in England. NEWTON, Frank WWII Frank was born at Drayton, Ontario, the son of Harry and Mary-Jane Newton. In 1946, he married Ida Beatrice Elsie Bolton. Frank enlisted in Winnipeg in 1942, trained at Shilo and served overseas in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany and was discharged in February 1946. ODELL, William Henry WWI William was born on November 6, 1890 at Cavalier, North Dakota, USA, the son of Philo and Ingiridur Odell. He enlisted with the 222nd at Baldur on February 21, 1916 and went overseas in November that year. He participated at Vimy Ridge, Hill 70 and paid the supreme sacrifice on October 26, 1917 at the Battle of Passchendaele. PAUL, Gerald Noel PEACETIME Gerald was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the son of Bert and Anna Paul. He married Phyllis Valentine on April 24, 1964 and they lived in Burnaby, British Columbia where he was employed as an electronic and a radar technician. Gerald enlisted at HMCS Chippawa in Winnipeg and served for twelve years in Canada and overseas. PAULSON, Albert Niels WWI Albert was born in the R.M. of Argyle, Manitoba on February 18, 1895, the son of Kristjan and Jonina Paulson. He enlisted in May 1918 and was still in Canada when the Armistice was signed. Upon discharge, he farmed in Saskatchewan. PETERSON, Baldur WWI Baldur was born at Gimli, Manitoba, the son of Peter G. and Ingibjorg Peterson. He enlisted in the Navy in January 1918 and married Jennie Christopherson on June 17, 1935. He was a fisherman on Lake Winnipeg for many years and a plumber at Gimli Airport for 21 years. Baldur passed away on February 9, 1970. PORTER, Alvin Beverley WWI & WWII Dr. Porter was born at Baldur, Manitoba, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Porter. During World War I, he served in Canada and abroad in the Royal Air Core, and he also served in World War II with the RCAF as an Instructor Dentist.
