He enlisted in the Army and served with the First Special Service Force in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. He was a member of Norwood Legion Branch and Brandon Legion Branch for twelve years. Jos-Lucien passed away in 1987. ARSENAULT, Wilfred C. WWII Wilfred was born in Prince Edward Island in 1923. He joined the BC Corps of Signals and served during World War II. He was a member of Brandon Legion Branch 3 for two years. Wilfred passed away in 1975. ATKIN, Charles W. WWII Charles was born in Salt Coats, Kingston, England in 1909. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Lake Superior Regiment in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. He was a member of Brandon Legion Branch 3 for more than 35 years. Charles passed away in 1994. BAIRD, John WWI John Baird, of the Dry River district enlisted in 1914 and went overseas with the 203rd Battalion. He was wounded in action in France. After the war ended, he went to Grandview with his wife, the former Sarah Kemp. John died in 1950. BJORNSON, Bjorn WWI Bjorn was born in the R.M. of Argyle, Manitoba in 1899, the son of Ivar and Anna Bjornson. They moved to Big Point while Bjorn was a youth. He enlisted at Langruth with the 34th Battalion, Fort Garry Horse in 1917. In 1918, he transferred to the Siberian Expeditionary Force and landed in Siberia just before the war ended. Bjorn worked on the railroad and died in 1970 in the United States. BOULET, Amie WWII Amie was born at Mariapolis, Manitoba, the son of Alphonse Boulet. He married Liliane Desrochers in November 1947. They had two children, Roger and Elaine. Amie enlisted in Winnipeg and was stationed at Portage la Prairie. He retired and lived at Mariapolis. BROWN, James WWII James was born at Horsecreek, SK, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brown. He lived in Toronto. He married Shirley Wilkinson in 1957. James enlisted in Toronto and trained at Lachine, Quebec. CLEGHORN, Murray (MD) WWI & WWII Murray Cleghorn was born at Baldur, Manitoba, the son of Dr. Irving and Katherine. He served in both World War I and World War II and was discharged as a Squadron Leader. He married Jean Craig in December 1926, and they later had two children: a son Gordon, also an MD, and one daughter Marguerite. COLLINS, Richard Joseph BOER WAR Richard was born in London, England, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Collins. He enlisted in London, England on May 15, 1901 and served in South Africa where he was cited with the Queen’s South African Medal. He married Mary Grace Foy in Baldur, Manitoba on November 20, 1912. Richard is deceased. CROFTON, John BOER WAR John was born in Ireland. While serving in South Africa, he met and married a native woman. They had twin sons who died shortly after birth, as did their mother. Following the war, John came to Canada in 1902 and farmed one mile west of Glenora, Manitoba. He died in 1948 and is buried in Marringhurst Cemetery. DUNNING, Harry Earle WWII Harry was born at Glenboro, Manitoba, the son of Phillip and Karoline Dunning. He was a machinist at Drayton Valley, Alberta. He married Jean Gardiner in 1946 and they had one son, Phillip Shawn. Harry enlisted with the RCNVR at Winnipeg, trained at Saskatoon and served on HMCS Unicorn. FORBES, William Nobel WWI William Nobel Forbes was born in England in 1891. He enlisted in Winnipeg and was sent overseas. He was wounded in France – thereafter requiring an iron brace from knee to toe on one foot. His last known address was in Vancouver, British Columbia.
