He enlisted in the Army in Winnipeg in 1943 and trained at Prince Albert, Calgary, Wainwright, Comox and Nanaimo before going overseas to serve in England, Germany and Holland. John married Laurence Desrochers on October 19, 1949 and they had seven children: Garry, Joyce, Donna, Vivian, Danny, Perry and Kennith. John lived in Baldur where he operated a trenching service. He was a member of the Baldur Legion Branch. VAUL, Albert Edward “Bert” WWI & WWII Bert was born in Stafford, England, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Vaul. He enlisted at Winnipeg in 1915, receiving his training at Camp Hughes (Shilo). He served in France and Belgium with the 8th (Little Black Devils) – 144th Battalion. He served with the Corps of Commissionaires during World War II. His wife’s name was Margaret (Robertson) and they had one daughter, Bertha Geysen, with whom Bert made his home in Baldur from 1951 until his death in 1965. VINCENT, Athanse “Tony” WWII Tony was born in St. George, Manitoba in 1922 and enlisted in the Army in 1943 with the Winnipeg Grenadiers and the “1944 Black Devil’s” unit. He trained in the Infantry in Trenton, Cornwall, Prince Rupert, went overseas to Kiska, Japan and then back to Canada at Vancouver and CFB Shilo, MB during World War II. Tony was prepared to join the front lines after shipping out to England and Holland, but the war ended. Tony married Emma Audette in 1948 and they raised five children, two sons and three daughters. He worked in the flour mill for thirty years and has retired in Winnipeg. One of his sons is in the Army at Trenton and he has a grandson serving in Egypt. He is a member of the Norwood Legion Branch 43.
