237 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca TODD, Stanley Thomas “Stan” WWII Stan was born in Prince George, British Columbia, the son of Thomas and Florence Todd. He enlisted in the RCAF at Winnipeg. In Canada, he trained at Edmonton, Claresholm, Regina, Portage la Prairie and Rivers. Overseas, he served at Bournemouth, England; Pennolt, Wales, Upper Heyford, England; Honey Bourne, England and near Tripoli and Tunis, North Africa. Stan went overseas as Sergeant Navigator in August 1942. After training in England, he proceeded to North Africa in March 1943 and did forty bombing trips which was considered to be a “tour.” He returned to the United Kingdom by boat in November 1943. He received commission as Pilot Officer and served as navigation instructor until returning home on the Queen Elizabeth in time for Christmas 1944. He received his discharge at Rivers as Flying Officer in October 1945. He married Florence Harmer on June 27, 1942 and they had four children: Richard, Sandra Lockerby, Russell and Debbie. He was in charge of Intelligence Library at Rivers during the spring and summer of 1945. Stan was a member of the Baldur Legion Branch 108. TRUELOVE, Everett J. “Eb” WWII Eb was born in Bathurst, Ontario, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Truelove, and moved to Baldur as a child. He enlisted in the Army at Fort Osborne in Winnipeg and received his training at Petawawa, Ontario before going overseas to serve in England, Holland, Belgium and Germany. He married Margaret Johnson on June 28, 1947 and they had three sons: Rick, born in 1948; Tim, born in 1951; and Greg was born in 1957. Eb operated the lumberyard in Cypress River and in 1972, received his 25-year service pin. TRUELOVE, Kenneth L. “Ken” WWII Ken was born in Bathurst, Ontario, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Truelove, who moved to their farm east of Baldur while the boys were quite young. Ken enlisted in the RCAF in Winnipeg where he trained before going overseas to serve in England, Denmark and Germany. Ken married Racine Stewart of Ninette, Manitoba on May 20, 1950. They had three children: Ronald, born in 1952; Robert, born in 1956; and Lorrie was born in 1963. Ken lived in Los Angeles, California where he was Superintendent of Travellers Insurance Company.
