209 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca RUTH, Warren W. WWII Warren was born on September 16, 1921 in Sidney, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Air Force at the Manning Depot in Brandon, MB. He was sent to #2 Wireless School in Calgary, AB and then to Bombing and Gunnery training in Mossbank, SK. He continued training on the West Coast to #6 Basic Recruit training in Alliford Bay and Sea Island, BC. He crossed Canada to Yarmouth and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia with #162 Squadrons. Warren went overseas with #4 Coastal Operational Training Unit and was stationed out of Castle Archdale, County Antrim, and Northern Island where he patrolled British waters. He returned home to Sidney in late 1945. He worked in Forestry for a time and then headed to Stoney Mountain Corrections before returning to Sidney in 1991. He was a member of Portage la Prairie Legion Branch 65 and Stonewall, MB for a total of 55 years. Warren was known for his dancing prowess, never missing a Friday afternoon at the Herman Prior Centre in Portage la Prairie. Warren passed away on June, 25, 2013 in Sidney. SAEDAL, Brian PEACETIME Brian was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1943. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1961 as a 1st Loadmaster. He did his training in Winnipeg, Ottawa, Moose Jaw, Edmonton and Trenton before he toured Europe for six months. Brian was discharged in 1966 and married Veronica McGoarty in 1969. After service, he worked in sales for the Miller Brewing Company for 23 years before retirement. He currently resides in Winnipeg. SCHEIRER, Arthur F. SPECIAL DUTY AREA Arthur was born in Fort Frances, Ontario in 1931. He enlisted in the Army on May 29, 1947 and was discharged on November 10, 1952 after five years of service. He served in Canada in special duty area. Arthur has been a member of the Fort Frances Legion Branch 29 for 55 years.
