195 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca PETROW, Maurice M. WWII Maurice was born in Winnipeg, MB in 1926. He enlisted in the Canadian Army with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion. He took his training at Camp Shilo after a 75-metre tower was constructed there. Maurice was part of a jump on D-Day at Juno Beach, Normandy on June 6, 1944. Private Petrow was injured on that jump and succumbed to his injuries in February 1945. PIERUNEK, Roy K. SPECIAL DUTY AREA Roy was born in Drumheller, Alberta on December 31, 1945. He enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces on May 26, 1964 and served with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery in Germany in 1965, 1972 and 1980 and in Cyprus from 1979 to 1980. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration Medal, Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, Cyprus United Nations Medal, Peacekeeping Medal, and United Nations Medal for Service in Germany Medal. He retired from the Forces in June 1993 after 29 years and 47 days at the rank of Master Warrant Officer. He has been a member of Wheat City Legion Branch 247 for fifteen years. PIORTROWSKI, Jan Paul WWII Jan was born in Poland in 1924. He enlisted in the Anders Army and served with the Second Polish Corps in the Battle of Monte Cassino and the Battle of Bologna in Italy during World War II. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Winnipeg Polish Canadian Branch 246 for 51 years.
