181 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca MONTROY, Zebb WWII Zebb was born in Rock Lake, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Montroy. He enlisted at Brandon with the artillery unit and was later transferred to Ack Ack overseas. He trained at Debert and ongoing overseas; he went to Normandy on D-Day and right through to Germany. He married Ernistine Morisseau in November 1929. He had three sons: Edward of Neelin, Bernard of Brandon and Floyd of Alexander, and one daughter, Mrs. William Russin of The Pas, Manitoba. MORRIS, Elstan G. WWII Elstan was born in Erb Settlement, New Brunswick in 1923. He first joined the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve on HMCS Chippawa in Winnipeg. He then saw active service as a wireless operator (Tel) aboard mine sweepers during World War II. He served in Canada and on the High Seas. He fondly remembered his time in England serving aboard the mine sweeper HMCS Milltown in 1945. He also spoke often of his trip from Halifax to Vancouver via the Panama Canal on HMCS Border Cities in November and December of 1945. After the war, he was a school teacher/principal in rural Manitoba and was an avid supporter of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. He served as Commanding Officer for 317 Strathclair Squadron from early 1950’s into the 1980’s. He was a member of Strathclair Legion Branch 154 for over fifty years until his death in 2011. MORRISON, Robert M. WWII Robert was born in Winnipeg in 1914. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders – Fort Gary in England and rode a motorcycle in Germany during World War II. He trained in Woodstock, Ontario for Motor Mechanic. While training, he drove army vehicles. He was a member of St. James Legion Branch 4 for twenty years. Robert passed away in 1996.
