He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery on February 11, 1943. He served in the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean Area and Continental Europe during World War II. He received the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was discharged on January 28, 1946. David served as President of The Royal Canadian Legion, and he received a Life Membership from Legion Branch 13 for 65 years of service. David passed away on February 3, 2003. McKIE, William A. WWI William was born in Girvan, Scotland in 1877. He enlisted in the Army on December 29, 1914 and was sent to France in the fall of 1915. He served with the 52nd Battalion, Canadian Infantry during World War I. He was a Sapper, which was a dangerous job of building zigzag trenches while being targeted by the enemy. William passed away in 1956. McLEAN, Donald WWII Donald was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. He joined the Army in World War II and became a dispatch rider in England. He spent the war in the United Kingdom and returned to Portage la Prairie where he met his wife, Flo. He worked for Trans Canada Pipeline until he retired to Sherwood Park, Alberta where he died after living a long life.
