He came to Canada in 1926 and worked as a farm laborer until 1941 when he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He trained in Trenton, Ontario and was stationed at Macdonald, Manitoba until he was sent overseas in 1942. He served in England, during the Blitz, Ireland and Scotland as a Service Policeman. He returned in 1945 to farming until 1957 when he started working at Portage la Prairie Legion Branch 65. After he retired from the Branch, he joined the Executive, serving as President from 1973 to 1974. Alexander passed away on February 1, 1980. McCUTCHEON, Robert B. PEACETIME Robert was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1948. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Queen’s Own Rifles, PPCLI in Logistics (transport) in Canada, Germany and Cyprus during Peacetime. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1966 to 1968 in Calgary; 1967 to 1968 in Cyprus; 1968 to 1974 in Victoria; 1974 to 1978 in Germany; 1978 to 1986 in Shilo; 1986 to 1988 in Borden; and 1988 to 1992 in Winnipeg. Robert has been a member of Wheat City Branch 247 in Brandon for two years. McKAY, Hugh WWII Hugh was born in Neelin, Manitoba, the son of John and Lena McKay. He enlisted at Winnipeg in 1940 and trained at Winnipeg, Camp Borden and served overseas in England, Africa and Italy. Of the four sons in the McKay family – two served in the RCAF and two with the Canadian Army, all but one had overseas service. He married Helen Davidson in July 1948 and was employed as a postmaster at Cartwright after service. They had three children: Ian, Jane and Allan.
