163 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LYTLE, Frederick John “Fred” WWII Fred was born in High Bluff, Manitoba on June 12, 1918. He joined the Army in 1939 and served with the 37th Battalion 17th Field in Canada, Italy and England during World War II. He was wounded on February 28, 1944 in Italy and sent to the Scotland hospital to recover. Before returning home he married Grace Hamilton from Scotland. He returned to Canada in 1945 with his wife and their daughter who was born in Scotland. He worked for Forsythes in Portage la Prairie then Bagot on a farm and returned back to Portage la Prairie to work for Davis Garage. In 1956, he and his wife and their four children moved to The Pas. Fred was a member of Legion Portage la Prairie Branch 65 for fifty years. He passed away on April 8, 1996. LYTLE, Harvey James WWII Harvey was born in High Bluff, Manitoba on May 29, 1913. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942, served in Canada during World War II and was discharged in 1945. After the war, he and his wife, Jean Love, lived in Portage la Prairie and had a small store in front of their house on Victoria Avenue. In 1948, he and his family moved to Brandon where Harvey worked as a carpenter, was in the Carpenter Union and worked on the Fairway Agreement until 1959 when he and his family moved to British Columbia. Harvey passed away in July 1993. MacNEE, Colin Duncan WWII & KOREA Colin was born in Glenora, the son of Colin and Bella MacNee. He enlisted at Winnipeg in 1940, trained at Shilo and served overseas in England, Northwest Europe and was discharged in February 1946. Colin then re-enlisted in May 1950, went to Korea in March 1952 and was discharged in February 1962. He married Amy Fisher in London, England in November 1942. They had two children, John and Barbra.
