161 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LOVELL, Glenys PEACETIME Glenys was born in Hammersmith, England in 1943 and enlisted with the Women’s Air Force in 1961. She trained at RAF Lyneham, England and was an operation’s clerk looking after flight plans, safety measures and recorded the pilots’ flight times and locations. She met her future husband, Philip Lovell, during training and they made their way to Canada, and eventually to Winnipeg. They had one daughter and two sons. The Lovells continue to reside in Winnipeg where Glenys is a member of Norwood Legion Branch 43. LOVELL, Philip PEACETIME Philip was born in Tooting, England in 1936 and enlisted in the British Air Force in 1954. He trained in England and in Sylt, Germany for two and a half years as an aero engine technician. He was at Transport Command in RAF Lyneham, England also, where he met Glenys and they married in 1963. Many planes came and went which Philip worked on and he recalls a small aircraft arriving with the Prince aboard. His claim to fame was that he had tea with the Prince. Coming back to civilian life, Philip worked at United Aircraft (twelve years), Orenda Engines and Walker Sidley. The Lovells had one daughter and two sons and they continue to live in Winnipeg. He has been a member of the Norwood Legion Branch 43. LUBBEN, Jack W. PEACETIME Jack was born in Port Hope, Ontario in 1929 and joined the Army (Artillery) in 1949. He trained in CFB Kingston, Chiliwack, Shilo and Toronto before heading out to Korea from 1951 to 1952, then on a NATO mission to Germany from 1952 to 1953, back home and then off on a second Germany mission from 1966 to 1967. Jack was discharged from the Army in 1980. He married Marrielle Daigneault in 1960 and worked for Wawanesa Insurance until his retirement in 1994 and currently resides in Winnipeg. He has been a member of Norwood Legion Branch 43.
