He joined the Canadian Militia and served from 1909 to 1914 with the 3rd Victoria Rifles in Montreal, Queen’s Own Rifles in Toronto and 48th Highlanders in Toronto. He enlisted in 1914 with the 15th Battalion CEF (48th Highlanders) and served overseas and in Canada during World War I. He was discharged in 1919 in Montreal at the rank of S/Sgt. He joined the Flin Flon Legion Branch 73 in 1932 and served numerous positions including Branch President in 1940 (the seventh president of that branch). He served on Provincial Executive Council and was appointed Acting Provincial Secretary to Manitoba and North Western Ontario Command in Winnipeg. He was awarded Life Membership and Legion MSM, King George V Jubilee Medal and Elizabeth Coronation Medal. William passed away in 1970. LOCKERBY, John WWII John, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Lockerby, of Neelin, was born on May 2, 1918. He joined the Army Signal Corp in April 1942. He married Fern Scott and they had six children. After his discharge, he worked on the family farm at Neelin. LORTE, Frederic KOREA Frederic was born in Quebec City, Quebec in 1933 and served in the Army from 1951 to 1964. He was with the Royal 22nd Regiment and specialized in paratrooping. He trained to protect the North from invasions and spent time training in Japan for a year and in Korea from 1952 to 1953. He was sent for training new soldiers paratrooping at CFB Shilo, Manitoba until he left the Army in 1964. He has been a member of Norwood Legion Branch 43.
