157 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LIGHTHEART, Raymond E. WWII & KOREA Raymond was born on October 30, 1922 in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in Saskatoon on June 16, 1941 with Royal Canadian Army Service Corp and served in Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy and Europe during World War II. He received the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the Victory Medal. He was discharged on January 30, 1946 in Toronto. Raymond re-enlisted in 1950 with 1st Battalion PPCLI and was promoted to Corporal. He served in Korea and in Japan during the Korean War. He was wounded on December 10, 1951 on Hill 227 and rotated back to Canada. He was discharged in 1957. Raymond was a member of Flin Flon Legion Branch 73 for 46 years before he passed away in 1995. LIGHTLY, Robert W. “Bob” WWII Bob was born in Swan Lake, Manitoba, the son of William and Laura Lightly. He enlisted at Winnipeg in 1941, trained at Brandon and Mountain View, MB and Montreal, QC and was stationed at Paulson, Portage la Prairie and MacDonald in Manitoba and overseas with the 405th Squadron, Pathfinder Group, Gransden Lodge. He resided in Winnipeg and was employed as Assistant Deputy Minister in the Department of Youth and Education. He married Arvilla Elson on September 7, 1942 and they later had four children. LLOYD, John Alfred WWII John was born in Rainy River District, Ontario in 1926. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry in Fort Osbourne, Manitoba and Nanaimo, British Columbia during World War II. John passed away in 2007.
