143 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca JONSSON, Carl WWII Carl was born in Cypress River, the son of Christjan B. and Thordis Jonsson. He enlisted in Winnipeg with the Grenadiers and served in Jamaica and then in Hong Kong. Carl was a member of Duke of Kent Legion Branch and Fraternal of Eagles Aerie No. 23 and was an active member of the curling clubs of both associations. He was married to Rose Kelso and at the time of his death in 1968, was employed as a salesman for many years in Winnipeg. He is survived by three daughters: Jacqueline, Hazel and Elaina. JOYAL, Claude E. WWII Claude was born in The Pas, Manitoba in 1920. He enlisted in the Navy and served onboard HMCS Waskesiu during World War II. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, King George VI GRB Service, Russian Commemorative Medal, and the British Arctic Star Emblem. He was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 19. Claude passed away in 2014. KEARNEY, Robert “Bob” PEACETIME Robert was born in Winnipeg on November 21, 1928. He joined the Army as a gunner in 1946 and took his basic training at CFB Shilo, Manitoba and at CFB Trenton, Ontario. During part of his service, he chauffeured for the Colonel. He was discharged in 1956. Robert was married and had two sons and two daughters. After his discharge, he worked as a supervisor at Meadow-Land Dairy and was forced to retire in 1986 due to ill health. He was a member of Norwood Legion Branch 43 and became a Life Member in 1989. Robert passed away in November 1994.
