Ragnar enlisted with the Navy at Kingston, Ontario in 1943, trained at Cornwallis, NS and was stationed at Ottawa and served with HMCS Uganda cruiser in the Japanese Campaign. He married Margaret Best on June 15, 1946 and they lived in Peterboro, Ontario where he was employed as a clerk with CP Express. They had two sons, Paul and Douglas. JOHNSON, Steini Wilbert WWII Steini was born in Baldur, the son of Kari and Anna Johnson. He enlisted at Winnipeg in November 1941 with the RCAF, trained at Toronto and St. Thomas and was stationed at St. Jean and Bagotville, Quebec and Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Steini farmed at Baldur and was Municipal Councillor for Ward 3. JOHNSTON, Reginald J. W. WWI Reginald was born in Springfield, Manitoba in 1895. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force during World War I. He served in Vendin-le-Vieil, France and Continental Europe. Reginald was killed in action in 1917 near Vendin-le-Vieil. After his death, Private R. J. W. Johnston received the Victory Medal and the British War Medal; they are engraved with his name around the edge of his medals. He was 22 years old at the time of his death and had been a soldier for nineteen months from January 19, 1916 to August 15 or 16, 1917. New evidence has since come to light - human remains of fallen soldiers were found near Vendin-le-Vieil in 2016. DNA has confirmed a match and Private Reginald Joseph Winfield Johnston will be buried in France later this year, almost one hundred years after his death.
