139 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca JOHNSON, Harold Marino WWII Harold Marino Johnson was born in Winnipeg in 1916, the son of Gudmudur and Ingibjorg. He enlisted in Winnipeg in 1942 and trained at Vernon and Terrace, BC. His entire service was spent in BC and he was discharged in October 1946 from Winnipeg Light Infantry; later he was attached to No. 11 District Depot, Pacific Command. Prior to the war, he resided in Baldur leaving there in early 1940’s. He married Lila Graham of Holland in 1941 and they had one son, Harold Duane. JOHNSON, Keith Frederick REGULAR FORCE & RESERVES Keith was born in Langruth, Manitoba on May, 25, 1940. He joined the RCAF on August 13, 1958 taking basic training in St. Jean, Quebec and his trade training as Aircraft Electrical Technician in Clinton and Camp Borden, ON. He enjoyed postings to Winnipeg, Gimli, and Edmonton. He joined the Golden Centennaires Aerobatic Team, stationed in Portage la Prairie, MB in 1967. The first show for the team was at the opening ceremonies for Expo ’67 in Montreal. He was a crewman flying with Jim McKay, one of the solo pilots, which was the start of more than one hundred shows, criss-crossing Canada three times. Keith worked on Hercules aircraft from 1972 to 1980. He retired in 1989 but re-enlisted in 1991 to the Air Force Reserves and was involved in the Portage la Prairie base closure. His final posting was QA Flight Safety in Winnipeg, retiring on May 25, 1995 to Portage la Prairie. He has been a member of Langruth Legion Branch for 51 years. JOHNSON, Magnus “Mac” WWII Mac was born in Baldur, the son of Tryggvi and Sigrun Johnson. He enlisted in Winnipeg with the RCAF and trained at various places in Canada going overseas to the United Kingdom. Mac was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He married Gudrun Peterson of Baldur in February 1946 and they had two sons, Desmond and Glen. He has been a member of the Baldur Legion Branch.
