131 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca HUNTER, Roderick O.A. WWII Roderick was born in Mather, Manitoba, son of John and Ida Hunter. He enlisted in Winnipeg at HMCS Chippawa, trained at Halifax and served in the North Atlantic on convoy patrol. He lived in Winnipeg and was employed as vice-president and secretary of Great West Life. He married Doris Moffat of Halifax in December 1942 and they had three sons: Roderick, John and Richard. ISAACS, Leslie W. SPECIAL DUTY AREA & PEACETIME Leslie was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1953. He served in the Reserves with the 48th Highlanders of Canada in Toronto from 1970 to 1972 and did basic training from 1972 to 1973. He served with the 3rd Battalion RCR in 1973, Canadian Airborne Regiment 2 Commando in 1974, 3rd Battalion RCR in 1976, 1st Battalion RCR in 1977, Aerospace Maintenance Development Unit in 1980, 435 Transport Squadron in 1986 and 402 Squadron in 1994. Leslie retired in 2001. His deployments were Cyprus in 1974 and 1976, Middle East in 1978 and Somalia for three weeks in 1993 due to UN pullout. Leslie has been a member of Legion Branch 7 for six years. ISBERG, Herman Gestur WWII Herman was born in Belmont in 1913, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bjorgvin Isberg. He enlisted in Ontario, trained at Trenton and was stationed at Brandon. He married Sigrun Sveinson of Baldur in 1934. They had three children: Joan, Clifford and John.
