121 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca HAMILTON, Frederick William WWII Frederick was born in Baldur, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Hamilton. He enlisted in Winnipeg in 1941 and trained at Camp Petawawa, Ontario. Overseas he was with the Royal Canadian Engineers and served in the British Isles, Sicily, Italy and Western European Campaigns. He received the Military Cross, Ortona in December 1944. He resided in Winnipeg and married Alice E. Stevenson on November 30, 1945. They had two daughters, Mary Ellen and Catherine Alice. HANKS, Dr. George Edward “Ted” WWII Dr. Hanks was born in Pontypridd, Wales, the son of George H. J. and Clara Hanks. Dr. Hanks enlisted in Cardiff, Wales and served on HMS Glendower out of Pwllheli, Wales. He graduated with his degree in Medicine in London in 1949. He married Ann Karry in 1961 and moved to Buldur that year to practice as a physician. He and Ann had four children: Robert, Timothy, Sarah and Arthur. HARMER, Robert “Bob” WWII Bob was born in Baldur, Manitoba, the son of John and Bertha Harmer. He enlisted in Winnipeg in 1940 and trained at Brandon, Regina, Portage la Prairie and Yorkton and served overseas in England and the Middle East. He married Lorna Hassard and they had six children: Rob, Suzanne, Lorna, Joyce, Elaine and Loriss.
