He enlisted in Winnipeg, Manitoba in September 1939 and was discharged in 1945. He served overseas in London and told that he saw the first bomb dropped on London as he was stationed at Croydon, eighteen miles from London. He was very active with the Boy Scouts for over 28 years. He served three years with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders and also the 12th Field Co. Engineers. He married Mary Kane in London in 1941 and they later had two children. GUNNLAUGSON, Fred WWII Fred was born in Baldur, Manitoba, the son of Sigvaldi and Gudrun Gunnlaugson. He enlisted at Brandon in 1941, trained at St. Thomas and was stationed at No. 12 SFTS Brandon and No. 17 SFTS Souris. He lived at Virden where he was in the restaurant business. He married Josephine Trottier in February 1943. They had three daughters and one son. GURSKI, Michael Stephen WWII Michael was born in 1920 to John and Annie Gurski. He served as a pilot during World War II. He was killed in action on April 22, 1944 and is buried in the Taukkyan War Cemetery in Burma. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Defence Medal, General Service Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.
