97 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca JOHNSON, Brynjolfur “Ben” WWII Ben was born at Baldur, Manitoba on July 22, 1923, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Johnson. Ben enlisted in Winnipeg with the Army Infantry Division and trained at Fort Garry, Shilo and Woodstock, Ontario. In October of 1944, he left for overseas and served in England and Holland. He was wounded and made the supreme sacrifice on February 19, 1945. His sisters are Mrs. Roy Campbell and Mrs. E. Truelove. In 1970, Ben Reuvenkamp respectively visited Ben’s grave. JOHNSON, Charles “Charlie” WWII Charlie was born near the village of Kirkella, Manitoba. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941. He served as an aero engine mechanic on air bases at Wheatland and McDonald, MB during World War II. He was discharged in October of 1945 as a Corporal and began farming near Kirkella. In 1963, Charlie and his wife Gladys moved to the Oakner district near Hamiota and continued farming. JOHNSON, Clifford I. “Cliff” WWII Cliff was born in 1924 and raised on the family farm south of the village of Manson, Manitoba. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve in 1943. He served on landing craft delivering Canadian troops to Juno Beach in Normandy on D-Day June 6, 1944. He served in Canada, England and France during World War II. He was discharged in October of 1945. He married Doris Hunt and began farming after his discharge. They raised a family of two boys. Cliff was a hard working member of the Elkhorn Legion Branch 58.
