95 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca JOHANNESSON, Pall WWI Pall was born at Riverton, Manitoba on January 13, 1896 and came to Baldur in 1903. He was the son of Thorfinnur and Karolina Rannveig Johannesson. He enlisted at Baldur on January 18, 1916 with the 222nd Battalion. He trained at Camp Hughes before going overseas in November of 1916 where he was transferred to the 46th Battalion. He was killed in action in France on May 5, 1917. Pall is buried in the British Cemetery, four miles from Lenns in France. JOHNSON, Alfred T. WWII Alfred was born in 1923 and raised on the family farm south of the village of Manson, Manitoba. He joined the Army in 1943 and trained at Fort Garry Barracks, Winnipeg and Camp Shilo, MB. He joined the C Coy in the Algonquin Regiment. Alfred served in England, France and Germany during World War II. He was wounded in France and was returned to his regiment as a stretcher bearer. He was killed in Germany on March 8, 1945. Alfred is buried in the Grosbeak Canadian War Cemetery, Nijmegen, Holland. JOHNSON, Bruce WWII Bruce was born in the Burnbank district North of Elkhorn, Manitoba. In the spring of 1941, he joined his twin brother Bob as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. He trained as an aero-engine mechanic and went overseas to serve on 400 Squadron, a Spitfire unit. He served in Canada and in northwest Europe during World War II. He was discharged in 1945, married Marie Young and began to work on a farm near Crandall. He began farming for a short time then trained as a grain buyer for Manitoba Pool Elevators. He bought grain for twenty years in Kenton, Basswood and Springhill Siding, MB. After leaving The Pool, he went to Alberta to truck oil. Bruce and Marie raised a family of four.
