91 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca HORRILL, Alvin SPECIAL DUTY AREA Alvin, son of Kenneth and Beatrice Horrill was born on March 18, 1949 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He went to school at Elmwood, Winnipeg, MB. He served in the Canadian Navy, Medical Corps from 1970 to 1973 during Peacetime. HORRILL, Hughie E. H. PEACETIME Hughie, son of James and Lucy Cox, was born in Swan River, Manitoba on May 10, 1934. Because of his mother’s death when he was three weeks old, Hughie was raised by his aunt Gertrude Horrill in Cartwright and the Mylor district. He went to school at Mylor and high school in Cartwright. At the age of eighteen, Hughie signed for service with the RCAF from 1952 to 1980. He served in Canada and in Germany during Peacetime. On returning to Canada, he was stationed in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where he serviced the famous planes of “The Canadian Snowbirds”. He married Gayle Martel and they had one son and one daughter. Hughie passed away on May 12, 1999. HORRILL, Roy J. WWI Roy was born on April 25, 1897 in Cartwright, Manitoba. He was the son of Charles and Maude Horrill. He served with the Army in England during World War I. He married Gertrude Cox of Hansboro, North Dakota on November 17, 1920. He farmed in the Mylor district, north half of 10-1-14 W. He passed away suddenly of appendicitis in March of 1925.
