He enlisted in the Army and served with the L Con Corps Sigs of the RCCS in Canada, France and the United Kingdom during World War II. He served from June 5, 1942 to February 5, 1946. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, France and Germany Star, 1939 – 1945 Star and the Defence Medal. He married Lena Sawatsky. Frank passed away in 1994. GOODA, Frank P. WWII Frank was born in Binscarth, Manitoba in 1915. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on November 5, 1940. Frank worked in aero engine mechanics in Winnipeg, Brandon, Toronto and St. Thomas. Frank served with the 423 Squadron at the Castle Archdale and Enniskillen, Ireland during World War II. He became a Cpl Aero Mechanic on November 17, 1942 in the United Kingdom. He was a diesel mechanic trained in twin wasp engines. Frank was a member of the Binscarth Legion Branch 9 for 26 years before he passed away in 1971. GOODRIDGE, Bruce WWII Bruce was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 31, 1923. He enlisted into active duty in the Canadian Army on October 22, 1942. He was a member of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders overseas in World War II. Bruce was wounded in Belgium (a machine gun shot to the left thigh) and spent several months recuperating in hospitals in France and England. He was discharged “to return to civil life due to demobilization” on July 21, 1945. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and returned home to Eriksdale, MB on VE Day in 1945. Bruce was a member of the Eriksdale Legion Branch 140 for fifty plus years. He held the office of secretary-treasurer for several of those years. He married and raised a family in Eriksdale. He worked as a butter maker for the local Creamery and Palm Dairies in Winnipeg. Later he took a job with the Department of Highways until his retirement in 1983. Bruce was an avid sports fan, playing baseball in the summer, curling in the winter as well as playing and coaching hockey. His absolute favorite pastime was playing the horses at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg with his many friends. He was a member of the Eriksdale Commemoration Legion Branch 140 for more than fifty years. Bruce passed away in March of 2004 at the age of eighty.
