He immigrated to Port Arthur in 1919 with his uncle Bill Sidall returning from the war. Harry took one year of Electrical Engineering at Finley Engineering College in Kansas City. He completed an Apprenticeship as a Mechanic. Harry married Nora McManiman in Winnipeg in 1940. They had three children. Harry served the R.C.A.F. between 1942 and 1946. He served at Fort William, Ontario from 1942 to 1944; Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1944; St. Thomas, ON in 1944; Winnipeg, Manitoba from 1944 to 1946; Calgary, Alberta in 1946 during World War II. His ranks were Aircraftman CI.2, August 1942; Aircraftman CI.1, November 1944; Leading Aircraftman, July 1945. His trade was Aircraft Carpenter: Trade Group “C”. Prior to the war, Harry was employed with No. 2 Empire Flying Training School, Ft. William receiving a leave of absence to serve in the war. The Military deemed that Harry had good mechanical knowledge. The career he chose after the war was “Auto Body”. He was to take the course at Winnipeg. Harry had a good service record and good character report. Harry was a very gentle, very kind man. CUTTS, John Arthur “Jack” WWII Jack was born in 1909 in Hathersage, England and immigrated to Canada in 1914. In 1942, Jack married Dorothy Kelleher in Winnipeg and had two children. Jack was an avid pilot. He served at Camp Borden then at Test and Development Establishment & No. 15 Flying Training School, R.C.A.F. Station, Rockliffe, Ontario. Prior to the war, he was a Bush Pilot in Ontario. During World War II, Jack was a Flight Instructor. Jack’s military records state: “Jack is a good worker and very good character; very pleasant and cooperative”. Jack took a Parachute Course and Jump and achieved his Commercial Pilot’s License. After the war, he returned to civilian duties at the CNR yards, Winnipeg; worked for Trans Canada Airlines, Bristol as an Airplane Mechanic; worked at Standard Aero Engine as an Airplane Mechanic for twenty years until his retirement in 1974. Jack passed away at Deer Lodge in 1997; a very kind human being. He belonged to the Masons as well as the Shriners. DALRYMPLE, Murray G. PEACETIME Murray joined the CAF on February 14, 1975. After basic training at CFB Cornwallis, he posted to 2RCR Battle School in Gagetown, NB. With 2RCR, he completed a tour of duty in Cyprus and was a security guard at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. In 1979, Murray remustered to the Air Force as a Fire Fighter for the next 25 years. As a young Cpl at CFB Cold Lake, his first call was a crash call for a VooDoo 101. As a firefighter, Murray had six postings across Canada and overseas to Baden, Germany. He served twelve years at sea on three different classes of ships; his final four years as the Snr. Fire Fighter at CFFS-E Damage Control Division. With CAF, he earned three United Nations Peacekeeping Medals, one Special Service Medal, the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal, and his Canadian Decoration. Murray truly “joined the Army and saw the world”, sailing the seven seas and visiting five of the seven continents. Now retired, he is an active community member and is also active in the Boissevain Legion Branch 10.
