45 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca CONQUERGOOD, Arthur “Artie” WWII Artie grew up on the family farm near Willen, Manitoba. He joined the Army and served in Canada and in the Aleutian Islands with the Canadian Contingent during World War II. Following his discharge in 1945, he was a barber in Broadview, Saskatchewan and later worked for the C.P.R. He married Faye Davies in 1947 and they raised a family of four. CONQUERGOOD, Howard “Howie” WWII Howard was born near Virden, Manitoba in 1908. Two years later, he moved with his family to a farm four miles east of McAuley, Manitoba. In 1926, another move to Willen, MB took place. In 1942, Howie enlisted in the Army and served with the Toronto Scottish Regiment during World War II. He went overseas in 1943. While in England, he contracted diphtheria and was sent home in September of 1944. Howie received a medical discharge. In 1946, he purchased a farm eight miles north of Elkhorn, MB. In 1947, he married Gertie Cullen and they raised two daughters. They retired to Elkhorn where they were both valued members of the Elkhorn Legion Branch 58. COOK (APPERLEY), Rebecca Pearl WWII Rebecca was born in September of 1921, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Apperley of the Dry River district. Pearl enlisted in the R.C.A.F. on September 3, 1942. She served as a Meteorological Observer (U of Toronto). Pearl was selected and trained for the first precision drill and participated in the Third V-Loan Campaign in Ontario as well as Recruiting Campaigns from Ottawa throughout the west of Victoria. Pearl was married to Wesley H. Cook. They had four children.
