He enlisted in the Army with the #10 District Depot. He served in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and Central Mediterranean during World War II. He received the 1939 – 1945 Star of Italy, France and Germany Star and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 40 in Rossburn, MB for more than forty years before he passed away in 2001. CANART, George WWII George was born on March 21, 1918 in Makinak, Manitoba. His parents had emigrated from Belgium; they returned to Belgium in 1925 along with their Canadian born family, George included. They returned to Canada in 1931 and settled on a farm west of Elkhorn. George joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and trained as an instrument technician. He served in Canada and in England during World War II. He was discharged in 1945 as a Corporal. George married Margaret Nichols in 1947. They settled in Brandon and together raised four children. CARR, Barton P. “Burt” WWII Burt was born in Foxwarren, MB in 1917. He enlisted in the Canadian Army and served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Canada, France and Italy. After the war, he took over his father’s butcher shop and later became a grain buyer in Foxwarren, Endcliffe and Strathclair. He married Wanda Klinger and had three children. Burt passed away in 1994.
