229 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca HUFFMAN, Angus W. WWI Angus was born at Baldur in 1896, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Huffman. He married Lillian Card in 1926. They had one son, Glen. Angus served for two years in France with the 27th Battalion and received his commission over there. He returned home in 1918. ISLEIFSON, Barney August WWII Barney was born at Glenboro on January 22, 1922, the son of Thorstein and Sarah Isleifson of the Bru district. He enlisted in Winnipeg and trained in Kingston, Ontario. He was stationed overseas in England and was killed in France on July 13, 1944. JOELSON, Sigurdur WWI Sigurdur was born on January 26, 1896 at Baldur, the son of Joel and Stienun Joelson. Sig served in Canada. He and his wife, Edna (Thorsteinson), farmed north of Baldur. They had two daughters, Darleen and Aldene. JOHANNESSON, Clarence WWII Clarence was born at Baldur on January 9, 1923. He served for some time in the RCAF. In 1947, he married Alma Dreger. They had three sons, Martin, Harold and Joey. Clarence was a hospital orderly in Morris, Manitoba. JOHANNSSON, Arman WWI Arman was born at Baldur on February 16, 1897, the son of Kristjan and Sigridur Johannsson. He enlisted on May 28, 1918, receiving his discharge in November of the same year. He died on May 30, 1949. JOHNSON, John Eggert WWII John was born in the R. M. of Argyle on February 27, 1896, the son of Joseph and Asdis Johnson. He enlisted in May of 1918. He was trained in England when Armistice was signed and returned to Canada in June of 1919. He lived in Detroit for many years but is now deceased. KATCHANOSKI, Philip Peter WWII Philip was born in 1918 in Souris, Manitoba. He joined the Army and served with the 1st Battalion of the Canadian Scottish Regiment in Holland, Belgium and Germany during World War II. He received the Distinguished Conduct Medal. Philip was a member of the Souris Legion Branch before he passed away in 1960. KENNEDY, Brian WWII Brian was born in North Bay in 1926. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Princess Pats in Canada during World War II. Brian passed away in 2005. KENNEY, George Pervis WWI George was the son of A. J. Kenney of the Dry River district. He served his country in World War I. KENNY, Clarence R. WWI Clarence was born at Pilot Mound and resided in Dry River. He enlisted at Baldur and trained at Shilo. He served overseas in France (Vimy Ridge) and in England. Clarence and his wife had three children, Rennie, Ray and Reg. KILGOUR, George WWII George was the son of the late Lillian and W. G. Kilgour of Baldur, where he was born and educated. George served in the R.C.N.V.R. and was wounded a sea and died as a result thereof. KOLDYK, Sybren WWII Sybren was born at Freesland, Holland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Koldyk. He enlisted in 1942 and went overseas in 1943. Sybren transferred to the Dutch Navy when he arrived overseas. He returned home in 1945. In 1950, he was accidentally killed in an automobile accident. LUNDGREN, W. A. WWI W. A. was born in North Dakota on August 12, 1895. He was overseas during 1918. He was a life member of Baldur Royal Canadian Legion No. 108. He passed away on March 4, 1970.
