21 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca BARTLEY, Raymond “Ray” WWII Ray was born on July 6, 1922 in Toronto, Ontario. He moved to Carievale, Saskatchewan with his parents where they ran a store. In 1934, the family moved to Elkhorn, Manitoba where they established a permanent home and continued to operate a store. Ray joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 as an aero-engine mechanic. He served on various units across Canada during World War II and was released in 1945. He went back to Elkhorn to work in the store. However, in 1946, he re-enlisted in the Air Force. After another 25 years of service, he passed away in Belleville, ON in 1973. He was Warrant Officer Second Class. BARTLEY, Reginald “Reg” WWII Reg was born on August 26, 1927 in Carievale, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army just before the war ended at a very young age. He was training as an infantry replacement in fort Osborne Barracks, Winnipeg when the war ended. After the war, Reg returned to Elkhorn and opened a barber shop. He married Eleanor Stein from Melville and they raised a family of three boys. Reg passed away in December of 1980. BASKERVILLE, James D. “Jim” WWII Jim was born at McAuley, Manitoba on March 14, 1923. He joined the Army in June of 1941 and was assigned to the 18th Armoured Car Regiment. He served during World War II in Canada, Germany, England, France, Holland and Belgium and was wounded in action. Jim was discharged in January of 1946. Jim passed away in Winnipeg on November 14, 1993.
