209 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca VILLENEUVE, Joseph A. WWII Joseph was born in Neche, North Dakota, United States in 1916. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, C Group in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. Company Quartermaster Sergeant Villeneuve was awarded the 193945 Star, the Defense Medal, the France and Germany Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 14 years. Joseph passed away in 1997. WADE, Clarence Edwin WWII Clarence was born on March 7, 1922 in Kirkland Lake, ON. He joined the Canadian Army in 1942 and served with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada. He was shipped out to Britain but once there he did not meet the requirements for active battle duty and instead served in support roles at various military bases in Britain for the duration of the war. Following his discharge in 1945, he returned to the family farm with his war bride. However, his wife returned to England in 1952 and their marriage dissolved. After the war, he raised beef cattle and drove school buses for many years. Clarence lived in the Anola area until his passing in 1976 from heart disease. WARD, Earl Kitchener WWII Earl was born in Roblin, Manitoba on July 30, 1916. He enlisted in the Army on January 20, 1941 and served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany as a Gunner and ammunition truck driver. He was honourably discharged on December 15, 1945 and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the 1939-1945 War Medal. Earl married Lorene A. Nastrom in 1948. He was a Life Member of Roblin Legion Branch 24, at times holding the positions of president, secretary and in the Colour Party. He was a member of the Agricultural Society, and the Roblin 50 & Over Club, the Trans Canada Trail Committee, Senior Citizens Council for Parkland and Historical Society and worked three years on the local History Book Committee. He coached ball for boys and girls in Roblin and worked at the Legion Athletic Camp at the Peace Gardens for many summers. He received various medals and awards. Earl and Lorene farmed in Roblin for over 60 years. They had three children, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He passed away on August 26, 2008. Earl’s name is engraved on a kiosk at the Juno Beach Centre in France.
