He enlisted in the Air Force and served in Canada, Egypt and Holland. James was a member of the St. James Legion Branch before he passed away on February 5, 1961. TITUS, Gerald R. WWII Gerald was born in Wellwood, Manitoba in 1913. He worked in Powell River, BC and for newspapers in Minnedosa and Carberry before enlisting. In July of 1940, he enlisted in the Army with the Second Manitoba Dragoons as a trooper. In January of 1941, he was discharged so he could join the Royal Canadian Air Force. After training in Canada for approximately ten months, he sailed for England in November of 1941 as a member of the #405 City of Vancouver Squadron. He made his first flight over enemy territory on May 30, 1942. He was missing in action on July 27, 1942. It was later learned that on that day, his bomber was hit by flack, exploded and crashed into the Elbe River, seven miles west of Hamburg. As he has no known grave, his name is inscribed on the Runnymede War Memorial, Englefield Green, Surrey, England. He was posthumously awarded the Operational Wings of the Royal Canadian Air Force. TITUS, John S. “Jack” WWII John was born in Wellwood, Manitoba in 1918. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on August 29, 1941 in Brandon, MB. He trained as a wireless air gunner in Canada for many months before leaving for England in March of 1943. He completed 34 sorties against the enemy and was awarded the D.F.C. in November of 1944. On his return to Manitoba, he worked with his father, taking over the Wellwood Post Office and general store when his father retired in 1945. Jack passed away in 1995.
