He joined the Army in 1941 and served with the 101st Battery of the Royal Canadian Artillery. He served in England and saw action with his regiment in Normandy and subsequent campaigns. He was wounded in action in 1944. John was discharged in 1945 and returned to McAuley. In 1969, he moved to Elkhorn where he worked for Good Roads until his retirement. John was a hard working member of the Elkhorn Legion Branch 58. STEWART, Verna WWII Verna was born in September 1920 near McAuley, MB. She joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in November 1942. She served at various locations across Canada until being discharged on February 23, 1946 as a Corporal. She married John Stewart, an army veteran in June 1947. They farmed near McAuley from 1942 to 1968 when they moved to Elkhorn. Verna was a very loyal, hard-working member of Elkhorn Legion Branch 58. STOLTZ, Carl E. Carl was born in 1916 in Kenwood, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army and served with the No. 10 District Depot (CA). He was a member of the Legion Branch 241 until his passing in 1972.
