183 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca ROSSET, Henri C. WWI Henri was born in St. Claude, Manitoba on May 5, 1899. He joined the Army in 1916 and served overseas in France with the 107th Battalion of the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force during World War I. On demobilization, Henri returned to St. Claude and farmed until he passed away in 1962. ROUSE, Allen WWII Allen was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on August 7, 1925. During World War II, he served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1939 to 1945. Allen served in the South Pacific and European theatres at sea onboard HMCS Ontario and in Scotland at HMCS Niobe. He also served at HMCS Cornwallis, HMCS St. Hyacinth and HMCS Montcalm. After retirement from the Navy, he joined the Manitoba Department of Justice and served for 43 years as a County Court Clerk, Magistrate and Clerk of the Peace/Court of Queen’s Bench for the Province of Manitoba. Allen is a tireless community supporter having received many community service awards and serving for 25 years as a School Trustee and is a past president and Life Member of the Manitoba Association of School Trustees. He is a Past President of the Kiwanis Club of East Kildonan and served on the Board of Directors. Allen served as Treasurer and Board Member of the Elmwood and East Kildonan YMCA. He is a Royal Canadian Legion Life Member and has been a member and volunteered in many executive positions in the Legion for over seventy years. RUSKIN, Harry WWII Harry was born in the RM of Lawrence, Rorketon in 1915 to Fred and Maria. He enlisted in the Army in 1940 and trained in Portage la Prairie, MB; Dundar, SK; Winnipeg, MB and Chilliwack, BC. He served in Sicily, Italy, France, Holland and Belgium and the end of the war in Germany during World War II. He served as a Private with the 13th Field Engineers – 1st Corps Engineers. Harry was discharged in 1946 and married Polly in the same year. He worked for CN in Winnipeg for 33 years and retired in 1980. He was the honorary recipient of several war medals. Harry passed away on August 30, 2009.
