181 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca ROSS, Leslie Jack Willis WWII Leslie was born in Rossburn, Manitoba on November 1, 1919 and moved to Winnipeg in 1929. He attended Hugh John Macdonald and Daniel McIntyre Schools. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in March of 1940 during World War II and trained as a pilot at Claresholm, Alberta. He received his wings from the Duke of Windsor on October 5, 1941. Flight Sergeant Ross was shot down eight miles south west of Sedan at Flize, France during a night raid against Saarbrucken, Germany. He was buried in Parish Cemetery at Flize, France and was exhumed and reinterred in War Cemetery at Choloy, Meutrthe-et-Moselle, France. ROSSET, Andre WWII Andre was born in Haywood, Manitoba on July 27, 1927. At the age of eighteen, he enlisted in the army. He served with the Canadian Infantry in Canada. When World War II ended, he volunteered for service in the Far East. When Japan surrendered, he returned to St. Claude, MB and married Louise Bonnefey and they were proud parents of fourteen children. He was employed by Modern Dairies, first as a truck driver, then many years as a power engineer. He retired in 1998. His retirement years were spent gardening, hunting, fishing and wood carving. He was a member of the St. Claude Legion and passed away in 2007. ROSSET, Claude WWI Claude was born on May 24, 1895 on the S.E. ¼ 20-8-7 St. Claude, Manitoba. Claude enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force in March of 1916. He arrived in France in February of 1917 and served with the 107th Battalion 2nd Canadian Engineer during World War I. He was involved in the Battle of the Somme where he was wounded at Arras, Pas de Calais on August 28, 1918. He returned to England in September of 1918 where he spent the next year convalescing. He arrived home in May of 1919 where he was a self-employed blacksmith. Claude passed away at 81 on March 28, 1977.
